When I first heard about this assignment in August I was really excited and thought it was going to be really fun. Although this blogging assignment was a chance for me to actually think about what happened throughout my week and gave me a chance to just slow down in my busy life, it was always something I had to remember to do. It; however, was easy for me to keep up with all the blogs we had to do because I am extremely organized and rarely forget to do things. I believe for those who struggle with organization, struggled with this assignment. My goal for when I started this blogging assignment was to just talk about college and the life style it brings upon a freshman, and all the new things freshman are exposed to. I wanted to make sure that what I said was either sarcastic or funny or sometimes the serious things that happened on campus. I believe I kept up with this,but when I started rereading what I had already written it seems like I was totally dishing on college and everything about it. This was not my intention. I revised my page by adding a poll, adding some pictures, and a title, along with categorizing my blogs. I think my title “live it up” was what my goal for this blog was going to be about, but like I said earlier I don’t think when you first read my posts that this shows. Whenever you read my posts read them with a little sarcasm-it might help. The only way I think I will blog in the future is if I am interested or curious about an issue and comment on others blogs. I don’t like to make up my own blogs, I do not have that creative mindset. I will also probably blog with my future career as a teacher considering there are some blogging sites for teachers who want some ideas or help with their classrooms. Blogging is a good way to look at others views and ideas about topics, this assignment opened my eyes to something I have never looked at before.

Success in the Library 3

Friday in the library I finished my outline of my paper and got through page 2 so that left 2-3 more pages for me to do this weekend. I didn’t stay exactly on task with my goal I made for my self, but I wasn’t too far off. I believe I will need to do a lot of polishing with this paper; I can’t seem to make a “good argument.”

You can tell it’s getting closer to the end of the semester, last-minute assignments, research papers, tests, and class registration. Yesterday was my date for registration PHEW it was an interesting experience, I had a lot of problems getting into classes which effected my classes for this semester. I had to miss classes yesterday just because I was registering for next semester’s classes. Because of this I was unable to be in the library, but I was able to do some research in my room and begin my paper. I do not think I will get as far as I originally planned and be done by Friday, but this rough draft will be done by Monday and turned in.

Today in the library I got a lot done. I researched a couple more sources and finally picked the side and where I wanted to go with this argument. I am hoping to start the rough draft tonight or tomorrow and have at least half of it done by Wednesday’s class. If I get this far by Wednesday I will be able to finish this paper by Friday and hopefully turn it in by Friday after class. This way I will have the weekend free. Theses library days will help me a lot.

College Life- Photostory

Today I only had to attend one class because of the power outage; I was a little bummed because our professor wasn’t there so I wished he would have canceled class. However I regret that thought now because we had a guest speaker and we learned all about Photostory. I am sure you have all seen one of these before probably at a wedding rehearsal or reception or a high school graduation. These are the “semi power point looking things” that you can add words and pictures to. These are a very cheap way of making memories and possibly gifts. I would definitely recommend that everyone would check this out.

College Life-”Home Sick”

I was always the person who couldn’t wait to leave the nest and be out on my own. I loved knowing that I had the chances to make my own decisions and show that I am a responsible adult. Although I love being able to make good choices and prove I am beginning to be ready for this world it’s always nice to have that being home feeling. This past week I was sick and had to go back home to St. Charles. It was really nice to be in my own big bed and not have to worry about if I am being too loud or if I want the lights out at a certain time. I was able to be a different free person and it was pretty nice. Not only was I able to go to bed when I wanted, but I had my family right there by my side helping me with whatever I needed when I was sick. I don’t care what people say it is very nice to be out on your own, but despite your age it’s always nice to be home with your family.

College Life- Stealing Our Money

So the other day I had a visitor here and we were hungry. I was going to get us some breakfast but remembered one student that was in front of me sometime last week couldn’t use another meal plan. So I asked them if that was possible to use two meal plans, and the answer was….NO. Now thiswas a bothersome answer considering this is my money that they are “playing” with. I might be able to see one situation that they would have to do that, but I know there is a large percentage of students here that are responsible enough to know how to use their food money. I go home a lot on the weekends so my meals are just wasted. I just wish this school could try to realize that this rule is pretty ridiculous.

In the article “In Your Face…All Over the Place” the author Jean Kilbourne is claiming that our society is being directed and manipulated by advertising. Kilbourne is persuading us and providing us with information about how our culture is disappearing due to the new advertising world. Through advertising we aren’t being manipulated to buy something but to buy a certain brand. This is taking away from our individualism in our society. Instead of people interested in our religion, family, and education (like in our earlier society), they are now interested in what brand our shirt is, what kind of car we drive, and what our favorite fast food is.

College Life-SHHHHH

Tonight I was in the library waiting for some group memebers. I was waiting for a while and was just observing the people around me. Every table was full of busy students figuring what sections they would take for the group presentation. Although it was not as quiet as a library normally is…it was not loud by all means. The reference personel decided to loudly announce that we were all being way to loud for the type of work we should be doing. That’s funny I thought to myself, this is all GROUP WORK. Group work involves talking. Everyone settled down and reduced their communication to whispers and writing notes, next thing you hear is this guy talking way too loud to one of his friends. I just wanted to be like hey you are being way too loud at your job which is located in the library. I don’t know why, but I thought this was amusing. Lets not call the kettle black.

College Life-Living in the Dark

So the other day I was in my bathroom, who I share with three other girls, and I was thinking to myself ‘wow it would be very dark if the light ever went out in here.’ I started laughing to myself thinking how amazing our make up and hair would look if we did it in the dark. I pictured those clowns in the circus with a lot of make up and the lip stuff that is always off their lips. Anyway I just laughed it off and didn’t think a thing of it until tonight…my roommate and I came home from getting dinner and we turned our light on…it didn’t seem to want to come on. I am now sitting at my desk using my computer light trying to do all my homework. It makes me laugh knowing that we are going to have to do this for a couple of days until our work order is answered. I feel like I am from the time of no electricity, which doesn’t make sense because I just said I was on my computer. Anyway I feel like I need some candles like back in the days. HOW EXCITING!!! I guess they don’t change the lights a lot and very soon so they can save on their electrical bill.
